Palai Discussion » 4 Reasons Why Blockchain Gaming is The Future » 5/12/2024 5:16 am

There is at least one project that aims at generalised blockchain-based computing, so that ultimately existing programs in various programming-languages will be able to run secured by blockchain(s), so eventually any existing game that is able to endure whatever slow-down running securely on a blockchain imposes will be able to do so.

Of course as computing speeds up, such delays will hopefully shrink, but of course also as computing speeds up the new games coming out to take advantage of the new speed will still be looking at a slowdown to run secured by blockchain; but progressively newer and newer of the old classic games will hopefully become amenable to being (re)deployed on blockchains.

Thus the Galactic Milieu project uses existing free open source multiplayer games as its components without worrying yet about forcing them all to a blockchain-based format; ultimately someday anything that runs at all will be able to be run on blockchains so we can focus on getting a multiverse of existing games up and running with a shared economy for now and worry about more-expensive details later.

We save a LOT by not having to sink vast sums into "development", and by not even deploying a full 3-D immersive interface yet we also save a LOT on bandwidth costs, so hopefully our Play To Earn model can leave a whole lot more earnings to the actual players than can any model that depends upon taking huge sums out of the players' hands to pay for development, hosting, bandwidth, maintenance and so on.

It is thus basically a "grass roots" project that might not even appeal to "venture capital" until already the players themselves have scooped up the vast majority of the potential earning abilities and tools and methods and so on. Let the "venture capitalists" buy from the players rather than the other way around.

I think it would help a LOT to all work together to get it a recognised value.

Often sites that try to show the value of various assets obtain the value displayed by looking at the highest buy offer, so in general it seems that one of the main ways to make an asset show up as having value is to build a very strong buy-side for it on order-books.

That provides a highest buy offer for outside publications to refer to, a value they can show as current apparent value.

Admittedly some places do seem at least sometimes to show the price as of the last trade known to have happened, but that method is susceptible to wash trading, where someone buys from themself to try to "establish" a value.

So I suspect it is more usual to use current highest buy offer.

Of course to do this we need a venue of order-books to post our buy and sell offers at.

For that I suggest the STELLAR (XLM) platform.

The original idea, called Ripple, was a person to person IOU-tracker where individuals could issue IOUs and choose how many, of whose, IOUs they themselves were willing to accept.

Someone bought the name and idea, and came up with the currently high in market cap rank Ripple (XRP), but that project seemed to sell out to "big bother" as it were, even stopping having private wallets one could run for oneself at home, so its creator created Stellar, much the same concept but hopefully so far not so "sold out" to "big brother".

Currently still on Stellar individuals can at almost no cost issue IOUs, so it would be trivial even for each and every person interested in establishing trade in Palai to issue an IOU named Palai, and to choose which if any other accounts' Palai tokens to "trust".

More likely to succeed though might be for the issuers of Palai itself to issue Palai tokens on the Stellar platform, since everyone already seems to have to trust them in order for any of the Palai currency to ever have any value at all, inasmuch as they seem to "hold the keys" to the whole thing.

Hi, I am Mark Metson, owner of knotwork.com, knotwork.net and various other knotwork domains over the last few decades.

I watched a similar-sounding cryptocurrency launch way back when, I think it is even still going (edit: FReiCoin), but as admin already mentioned this does one does not seem very blockchainish, in particular because it seems to offend the "not your keys, not your coins" rule; it looks a lot like the main site behind it basically owns all the keys thus owns all the coins thus none of this currency can really be regarded as your own, it seems more like an IOU, and furthermore an IOU the issuers of evidence no inclination to ever actually redeem aka make good on aka pay back.

So I admit to being quite suspicious of it.

The evapouration makes it probably not very practical for use as a "reserve asset" in the "treasuries" of the Galactic Milieu's treasury-based assets so I am not sure yet whether it can somehow be put to use in the Galactic Milieu but will look into that.

I tried to link to a bio type page but cannot post links yet.
